sweet closeness

we just missed the narly ice/snow storms taking on the northeast.  i went to visit my sweet sister and meet her sweet little stella with these two clowns.

if you don't already know, stella is my first ever niece!  i think my heart wants to burst how much i adore this one.  i did not expect to feel this strong about my sister's beh-beh.  and now i'm back and i'm bragging about stella to everyone at work, but it's just not the same to them!  haha.  i keep catching myself and saying "you just have to meet her".  i think i will smash my kids when i have them.  i make myself nervous sometimes.

anyway - there's much much more here if you care to see.  we spent so much time sitting at the table transitioning from breakfast into lunch it's not even funny.  stella just kept is on our toes with her cycle of eat, play, sleep.

on another note, i found a treasure which i have posted on my shop.  i also included a favorite sweater.  winter ain't goin' nowhere just yet from what i gather.  or maybe i'm just always cold!

in between two pines

i wore this outfit to work on monday - kind of blah, but i happened to snap a shot of it, it's nothing too special.  these pants i rediscovered from the back of the pants/jeans drawer (which is overflowing might i add) - i kind of lost my liking for them a while back - not sure why.  i think they made my butt look big - KIDDING, omg.

the blouse is borrowed from my friend olga - or 'swapped' rather.  sidenote: swapping clothes with friends of similar sizes.  try it! your husbands/boyfriends will love you.

we spent some time with friends at a cabin in tahoe this last weekend.  i powered through some dry parts of crime and punishment, but am extremely involved in this book at the moment.  so much so i had to lend my 'french women don't get fat' to my friend christine because quite frankly, no matter how much you think you juggle two books at one time - you CANT.  there.  well, that's the case for me anyway.  how did i get through college?  bah!


about this sweater - i bought it for myself at a thrift store in miami - and guess who it fits better?


i love the shots our wide angle lens takes.  this one in fact reminds me of a snow-ey version of some of 'massimo vitali's work - my friend liska pointed him out in one of her posts a while back (i had to go way back on your blog, liskers) - ever since then, high contrast and high aperture wide-angle shots like this remind me of him.  but i'm no photographer (and not very critique-savvy either - so if it's nothing like his work in your 'pinion, sorry).

that's a shot of wes and i - getting ready for a picture.  i'm just wearing my snowboarding gear.  there's really very little you can do to stay fashion-forward while playing in the snow - snowboarding gear is the most snow-proof apparel, but visually, it's like a culture of its own.  the prints and patterns are rarely to my liking (usually some form of neon-plaid-camo-concoction).  however - when i'm rolling around in snow, i don't think i care that much, haha.





this is us lounging around.  we intended to watch a movie, but ended up watching 'in between two ferns' on our phones.  oh zack g. how you master the art of awkward and inappropriate.




that is that.  in other news - i'm reaching out to the folks for whom i did make-up and hair work to compile a fun little portfolio.  i suck at documenting.  it's like there's work out there that i did that i never put my signature on - so much harder to reclaim after the fact.  geez.

and olya and i recommitted our focus to our shops today.  we're fist-pumping excited.  go tuesdays.

brilliant - i'm in love with her singing style.



well, i am finally excited (rather than overwhelmed) about making my own food!  i've been reading "french women don't get fat" and of course getting inspired to cook more and eat at home rather than eating out - which works better for the bank account anyway. today for example, i gave up my run to go get some essentials so i can make food for us. what a concept!

oh - and eat slow.  it's true.  i inhale my food - this is such an exercise.  i'm often on the run and just always hungry.  never actually take time to 'taste' the food. what a concept.

anyway i discovered and registered a 'foodfolio' account - an online recipe organizer.  i was looking for a simple organizer that would allow me to keep all the recipes i'd like to try or already tried in one place rather than randomly bookmarking them or looking for them later.

next up, these vegetable muffins i found on the plum kitchen blog.

omg - sorry to bore

we spent last weekend in reno, of all places, at a resort casino - um - ferr free.  wes found this deal online so we thought, why not - we've been trying to use our free lift tickets for sugarbowl and this was the perfect opportunity since it was in that general direction - free weekend everyone!  other than confirming that reno is probably the most depressing place to live in (sorry reno-ans, my opinion-o), it turned out to be a fun little shindig :)

after a day 'out', wes and i got a couple of drinks at one of the casino bars (chocolate cake shot for dessert and then my vodka cran yoozh).  we thought it would be fun to take some wild west pics by the canyon backdrop.  

it was either that or dance with all the other retirees to a 'singer in a box' 

i also thought that they did an amazing job making this tree a leaning xmas tree!  i love that!  doubt it was intentional, but i thought it was very lovely.  next year maybe, since ours is perfectly upright.

on the last day we stopped by this hole in the wall bakery for breakfast - i kick myself for not remembering their name because they were the shizzle.  their santa claus was nice too - he seemed like the real deal.  i just thought this was such a cute moment - the little girls dad was like "hug santa".  but it made a sweet picture, contrived or not, ha. 

anyway - this is it.  as far as the hair world goes, i've done some haircuts for wes and his buddies, but what's a word without a pickcha!!

it's been a month - which is pretty disgusting.  so uh.  sorry.  BUT if it serves anything - i've been keeping pretty busy.  i do truly hate excuses.  wes always says 'i don't want excuses, i want performance'.  mostly for kicks, but.  anyway,

and of course, how could i forget my epic failure at state board - the practical portion.  if it wasn't for the fact that i spent so much time in school, i'd keep doing hair on the black market.  love doing it, just hate the train wreck that it takes to get licensed.  however, it is what it is, ha!  now i wait for my new date for the practical - just passed my written today.  getting there dudes.

well, no news holds a candle to becoming an auntie!!! i'm so excited - my sister had a sweet little girl named stella and i get to visit with white crow and mary lou at the end of january!  my sister's been so busy i haven't really seen any pics, but they'll be here, just you wait!

anyway - miami threw me off a bit from the christmas vibe a bit, so after my return from testing on wednesday - we went to get a little tree which fit perfectly under my antler chandelier, like it's a tree top!

so good to see your lovely little faces again. 

lens and quality time

saturday was wonderfully spent with ma beardman.  he found this guy selling a tamron 28-75 mm lens in san francisco.  so with no hidden motive (haha) wes asked if i'd like to take a trip to sf with him and just stop by this guy's house to pick up a lens.  he's cleber.

i was testing out the lens on some dude who fell asleep on the side of the street.

we then traveled to tartine bakery for lunch.  i was more excited than wes, i'm sure.  he calls it 'chic food'. side note. wes standing in line for chic food.  classic.  how do i get this boy out of his food box, geez.  somebody help!

we shared a morning glory bun, but i lusted after all the other desserts behind the glass.

we took our food to-go and ate our meals at twin peaks.  i forget how crowded that place gets in good weather.   

everyone wants that cliche shot of them and the city in the background. 

anyway - on our way home we stopped at the golden gate bridge.  for how often i've been there (and the short period of time i lived there when we immigrated), i've never actually walked the bridge.  

i have this morbid curiosity as to how long of a ways down it is for those who plan on jumping.  and there are lots.  i like to think that they don't follow through (or survive).  i know that's not the case though.  

sorry, morbid, i know.  

but ya, let's move on. 

ps, i like our new lens.  the guy said there were a bunch of focus problems, but we didn't have any, other than the fact that it needed a new lens cap.  they normally run for nothing short of $300, even used.  the guy sold it for $150?  

hence the trip.  jk.  the trip was to spend time together.  haha.
