tuesday

hi there.

almost done with my dolly's perm. just the top section left.

i am aware of how creepy i look in the pic.

anyways - days like this i keep my eyes on my vision. just want to get on with it you know - as far as hair school goes. the state board tests us on 75% of what nobody even does anymore - and yet we have to sweat and agonize over it. just pulled that percentage out of my butt btw. don't quote me :) just a bit frustrating. something about them not being able to afford to update everything since like the 40s. oh well, i love the 40s.

we're out on the floor in about a month. can't wait till then because i can start working my booty off to get all my hours completed.

--

so i have also set to it that i need to lose just a couple if i want to do this model/photo shoot thing. not that i'm going to hold off on the photo shoot till then. at least do some cardio. and stop eating the little treats that pop up here an there.

there's a phantom treat person at work who keeps leaving these wonderful goodies in the break room in the morning for the taking (today it was just plain ol butter cookies. no frosting or anything just as plain xmas tree shaped cookie). so i took one, and while i waited for my wholesome/gluten-free waffle to toast, i just casually scarfed it down. as if it had a different effect if i ate it subconsciously. or while waiting for my coffee to brew. it's not harmful if you're standing up. right?

i'll just start going to the gym again on my lunch breaks and work my butt off for 20, take a shower and be back. all in one hours time. true story. i used to do it like two months ago. that is just about all the time i have in my schedule. unless i do lunges in my cubicle/octagonacle on my 10 minute breaks. but the walls aren't high enough. i'd seriously do that. i even have an exercise ball. except then there's the issue with the sweating.

k - enough about me.

i think i'm spent. long grueling day. long. grueling. day.

PERMS

freaking perms. i don't want to talk about it. all i have to say is this whole evening as we were practicing our first perm applications, i'm thinking "character building, character building...". and then i look around the room and all the girls but me are halfway done with their first sections and i'm only finishing
making my sections. CHARACTER BUILDING CHARACTER BUILDING CHARACTER BUILDING.

hence no pics tonight from school. if you'll see any, they'll likely be bad quality pics taken with my iphone. but not tonight. at least not from school :)

anyways, tonight i am reminded of my latest project of sorts. i'm a bit obsessed with tin cans - i've been collecting them here and there like since forever ago. they're all over our house if you can't tell. anyways, perhaps when weekend arrives, i'll create a mobile?

or another chandelier-esque device - i made one from antlers not too long ago and hung it in our living room.

now we could use something in our bedroom as there's nothing more than a big ol' blue wall (and a feather - and a nordstroms ad - i'll show you later).

--

i just got home (before i eagerly sat down to write my post - hows that for being zealous), and wes called. he said "if you see any packages, please don't open them because they're for me". i grinned. i know exactly what he's doing. anyways

passing by those boxes without actually touching them (HUGE feat btw. huge), i remembered this little ceramic boy that i snatched from my parents house when i was there last. he's kind of borderline, but i keep him in case i make up my mind. he sits among the owls (i had to isolate him for lighting), but i don't know if he fits in as wonderfully as i had hoped.

oh well. wes doesn't ask anymore. he just lets me do my thing. i think the boy is cute. if i can find a better place for him - i'm a winner. but in the meantime, he'll have to make friends with the owls. it makes me laugh to think it was a gift from my grandma to my little brother on his, what, was it 15th bday? i'm sure he would have rather died than display this in his room. i guess i'll preserve it for him for when he wants it back. he's now 16. so far no requests.

still can't believe i'm quarter jewish. dang.

ok - toodles.

one quarter jewish

my grandpa revealed to us today that - now that he's terminally ill - he has been keeping his jewish heritage a secret all his life. instead, he'd tell his kids and grandkids that he's ukranian - which makes sense since mistiuk is generally a ukranian sounding last name. anyways, definitely news to me. i guess he had to keep it a secret back in the day in russia - and somehow it was drilled in his head that it's not safe to share here either. my grandpa's a dear man (he's the one on the right)

it's like i'm a whole new person. jk. but it's pretty cool - i'm a quarter jewish.

anyway - before wes and i hit up our family gathering, we just made it in time for the antique fair (every second sunday, under the freeway - thank God. it was pouring today - we're pretty hard core). i bought this gorgeous antique hair dryer

not sure where i'll put it yet, but it's quite a piece.

oh yeah, if you can't tell, i'm working backwards with this one - sorry if it's really hard to follow :)

yesterday evening, we had the privilege of participating in our friends' christmas vacation-themed christmas party. first time i watched the movie was the night before - never really heard of it (sorry for those of you who are hard-core griswold fans). they even had a trailer parked out front and everything! can you hear the excitement in my voice?

anyway, that's where i inherited the viola twins and was able to cross 'manikin heads' off my christmas list. yay - that leaves room for wes to get me some other wonderful things for xmas!

they actually look like someone i know.

wes is gone for the evening and i thought they looked a tad creepy sitting on the table. just here with me and penny. by ourselves. penny and i can take them head on - omg! head on! nevermind.

my point in all of this was to share that my dear friend toni up and gave them to me! they're like $30 a piece! oh the things i'll do to their hair. i'll have to work gradually - can't do too much at once, you know. i'll keep you posted on what i end up doing :) i hope i'm not all talk. that's partly why i blog about it - that way i have to hold up my end of the deal. many thanks to her - she doesn't even know how excited i was about these.

oh, and lastly, before the xmas vacation party (i'm working backwards, rumember?), wes and i hit up thrift-town to see if we could find a fitting griswold outfit. we never really did BUT, i did find this amazing wonder for $1.99

i think i'm inadvertently starting a blazer collection. this and my pink one

are my two most favorites. i got the pink one from roseville hospice thrift store. i never leave that place empty-handed. btw, the pink blazer pic was from when i visited some family in philly. in case you were wondering :)

k. that's enough. sorry - i won't always have them this long - promise. i'm just sharing. this is too much fun.

night. i'm gonna finish new moon tonight. that's an order. wes still gone. two heads still sitting on the desk.

love and peace.

so ya

this is my blog. for lack of a fun name, i've been putting off starting one for a few weeks now. i'm over it, though. i ended up with yelizabeta, my immigrant name - it seems like i'm kinda stuck with it (thanks to the roseville dmv - but i digress) i might as well use it for something.

with this blog, i mostly want to track my life as a developing hair stylist - start august 2009, and also to post things i make/buy/enjoy - art/design/fashion related - for whomever cares to see i guess. maybe down the road (when i have more time - haha) i'll make them myself and perhaps sell them. myself. i've made items i'm excited about but hoarded them, thinking i'd never come up with something like that again. THAT's a mentality i better shove out the window.

anyway - mostly this is for me. i like to write (if you can't tell) and i like to put things out there on the world wide web. for your entertainment, if you can hardly call this that :)

oh and one other thing - i've been thinking about doing a little photo shoot - nothing major geez - and sending some pics to a few modeling agencies to see how far i can go with a modeling gig. it's an experiment - actually. sometimes people ask me if i do it - and well, i guess i'd like to see if they have any merit. and if i hear nothing - so what who cares? i'm sure i can keep myself busy enough.

ok - wish me luck. signing off for the night. i will leave you with this:

wes and i recreated (or at least tried to) a pic that we took in nyc back in 2005 when we were there just a few weeks ago. same exact spot.

i have to say - i think my recreation is a tad more accurate, buuuut.....

nighty night.
