ma man

since he was away on business this last wednesday, he spent his birthday by his lonesome (and very food poisoned, poor guy).  so this saturday - last minute as it was - some of our buddies came to celebrate and i'm pretty sure that made up for it :)  i made some pizza's with trader joe's pizza dough (first time making pizza in a looong time) and it worked out fine.






i finally hung my ombre curtains - they were supposed to be black going into grey and white when i dyed them, but somehow purple was their fate so i kept them stowed away for a while.

and of course, i not only almost dropped the cake on the birthday boy, but also accidentally blew out his candles.  of course.


i don't know what's worse, dropping a cake on the birthday subject or BLOWING OUT THEIR CANDLES! i mean who does that! it's like the universal crime.

anywho - i've also been spending some extra time with friends this last week.  i think i want to explore some sacramento happy hours.  la ray and i had zocalo last monday - really good! their appetizers are delish and they serve $5 margaritas (their marg's are legit), $4 sangrias, and $3 wine. what other local happy hours are good do ya think?

oh hi!

i've set blogging aside a bit as you can tell.  but i think i'm back (ha).  i think.

the holidays crept up and swept me away with the demands of muh little job and just life. 

anyway - here are a couple of the very few pics we took of what's been up lately - the only events we used our camera for is laraye and andy's wedding and rehearsal din.  as for the stuff in between - sadly the camera has been parked and i've been using muh phone IF even that (actually i've been blowing up instigram with pics, but that's no substitute - you can find me at username "yelizabeta" - if you want;)

speaking of their ma - while she's here in town, she let me do her hair!  the 'before' and 'after' kind of goes without saying, but...anyway

all this hair coloring is making me want to change mine! like go lighter! but i can't officially decide yet - life!

finally, this is me playing bocce ball with wes at the park like two steps from our house! why do we never go there! going forward, i will go there more

lastly - bear with me - are you all resolutioners?  i am! i never keep mine, but it's good to aim towards something.  i'm kind of still working through coming up with 'em, but here's what i got so far: 

1) work on self control (i.e. food, money, etc.)

2) practice patience (very loaded one, but i know what i mean :) 

3) read 5 books (right now i'm working through "in the garden of beasts" by erik larson)

4) make more hearty soups (discovered that wes is a huge fan - this could be the ticket folks!) 

5) establish a steady clientele

how cute is this? i was looking for one for muh-self, but came across one for penny! (noodle can't stand the feeling of anything around her neck).  

penny on the other hand doesn't mind her collar at all.  she's got a bit of tomboy in her (kinda like her ma!) so i know she'll like this one.

speaking of adorable and kitties, my sister texted me this picture and i'm on the hunt for one now.  wook at dat king of the jungle!

i can't believe how much time i'm spending on this cat stuff.  getalife elizabeth.  sometimes i find myself somehow spinning into a rathole of cat videos on youtube.  it's one of those things that i hide from wes.  he'll come home one day from work on my day off and catch me off guard.  i'll be like "haha - i was watching some music videos while the laundry's in the dryer and somehow accidentally clicked on this trash".  

they're unbelievable - cats.  i'll leave you with this one.  my kitties are still petrified of water, so i covet these cat owners who have sweet little keeskas who love to bathe (most of them, that is)! ps the music is almost deal-breaker annoying, but...

i got these at that swap i was talking about.  just snagged 'em, though they looked too big for comfort.  however, i threw them on today when getting ready for work along with those new favorite wedges (and a couple other things) and voila. ps - sorry to bore you with the fence back drop again :)









i couldn't let the kitties out this eve because we couldn't find noodle's collar.  she doesn't like wearing it - unlike penny who thinks it's part of her fancy coat.  it wouldn't be fair to noodle if penny got to enjoy the outdoors and noods didn't.  i think they're upset with me.  however, i did see their buddy, coby.  he was just sittin' on the fence!



he was meowing and yawning and getting all up close and personal.  i'm tellin' ya - the cats in this hood are something else.

overalls are from the stitch swap.  wedges are from article consignment.  blouse - don't remember, honestly.  necklace - thrifted :)

it's a cat neighborhood

its true.  they're all so friendly too! kinda creepy/awesome.

well, i must get off to bed soon - we have an early start to our weekend tomorra.  so...in a series of awkward poses, i present to you what i wore today :)

we walked to tupelo this evening as it was so breezy and beautiful.  and i love walking around!!  plus we have the coolest conversations on our walks.  example here.  wes's only stipulation is that we have a destination.  so we settled it with a trip for some coffee.  

oh yeah - i always forget to tell ya what i'm wearing (sorry! it's really never that impressive and usually thrifted, haha).  my lacey dress worn as "underdress/blouse" here is from forever 21 from like two years ago (it was a potential bridesmaids dress).  the black "party in the front" skirt i got from bows and arrows.  red blazer - thrifted.  sandals - i got them at a clothing exchange party with some girlfriends.  that's it, really. 

that's it for tonight goodfellas.  can i share with you that i hope we don't get sick.  i think we're both (especially wes) are coming down with something and are in denial about it because we want to enjoy our anniversary weekend in the bay.  comical.  i'll report back and let ya know :)

sunday man repeller

i'm a huge fan of the man repeller.  she's got it dead on - for some reason sometimes the clothes that attract me most are very unflattering in wes's opinion.  for example my high-waisted pleated trousers i like so much. or my oversized shorts (also pleated).  the lovely skorts i wore today are another example.  of course he'll always tell me that i look sexy in anything i wear.  his little remarks like "ooh, nice! grandma pants!" make me think otherwise.  but these pieces are so amazing - are they not?

and here i am again, trying to coo my cat into looking natural.  i promise she's really sweet.

yes of course i wore my blazer again.  and you will likely see a repeat performance from the skort things.  i'll be wearing them with polka dots if that's ok with you :)  

here's out neighbors little kitty (name is kitties).  she got really hurt while they were out and is now wearing a cast.  so sad, but so cute.  she just watches all the action outside while healing.  such a button.

in other news - this saturday, sacramento hosted the sactomofo mobile food festival which i had the pleasure of attending.  unfortunately, i was kind of a dumbo and did not take any pics.  however, my friend olga and monica took plenty.  i will let you read their blog posts to see all the gory deets image-wise. that was fun.  this is me with miss delicious noise - how cute is she?!
